* مُسْتحِيل!

- But you are precious in the sight of Allah!
A poor servant, a Bedouin by origin, unattractive in appearance, stood selling his goods in the market of Medina. Suddenly, someone approached him quietly from behind and embraced him!
The servant turned his head slightly to see who could be embracing and joking with this poor servant, whom people usually avoided and distanced themselves from due to his appearance.
He found that it was the man for whom the tree trunk longed, the mountain loved, and the camel cried out of longing for him.
It was the man sent by Allah as a mercy for him, for me, for you, and for all of humanity...
It was Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ!
So what did this poor servant do except seize the opportunity, pressing his back against the Prophet's ﷺ chest? The Prophet ﷺ, still embracing him, joked, "Who will buy this servant?"
The servant smiled and replied, "In that case, you will find me unsellable, O Messenger of Allah..."
Meaning: worthless, cheap, and undesirable to anyone because of my unattractive appearance and the way people perceive me.
But the Prophet ﷺ responded, "But in the sight of Allah, you are precious!"
It doesn't matter what others think of you, for your status is where Allah has placed you, not where people have placed you.
Have you ever read in history of a king who embraces a poor servant from the common people, jokes with him, befriends him, gives him gifts whenever he visits, and says about him: "Zahir is our friend from the desert, and we are his friends from the city"? (1)
We are his companions from the city, and he is our companion from the desert.
Impossible!
So what do you think of the one who did this, whose rank is greater than all kings and more exalted than all rulers, about whom his Lord said:
{And verily, you are of an exalted character} [Surah Al-Qalam: 4]?
"I am the son of a woman who ate dried meat..."
Despite the Prophet ﷺ's high status and lofty rank, when sitting among his companions, and despite being like a full moon among them,
When someone came to meet him, he was not distinguished from among them due to his humility and closeness to them.
Yet when a man came to speak to the Prophet ﷺ, he began trembling!
In awe of the Prophet ﷺ, as who would not tremble when meeting the Prophet, for the prophets have a certain grandeur, majesty, and reverence!
'Amr ibn al-'As, the warrior and commander, used to say, "There was no one more beloved to me than the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, nor anyone more awe-inspiring in my eyes than him. I could not fill my eyes with looking at him out of reverence for him." (2)
This is what a great leader and one of Islam’s heroes who made kings of Persia and Sham tremble said; so what about an ordinary man?
But what did the Prophet ﷺ do? He reassured the man, calming his heart and soothing his soul, saying to him kindly, "Take it easy, for I am not a king..."
Meaning: I am not like those kings who oppress and exalt themselves over people due to their status.
"I am only the son of a woman who ate dried meat." (3)
I am the son of a woman; to remind him, at a time when people were ashamed of mentioning their mothers, that he, too, was just a human being, a son of a woman, and not a deity to be treated differently.
She ate dried meat: this was meat that was preserved after being slaughtered, not fresh, indicating that they were not living in luxury like the sons of kings who ate only the best.
A great man does not need to act pretentiously to show his greatness. His greatness is only revealed through his simplicity, humility, love, and service to people. And this is how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was.
What did the Prophet do with the elderly woman?
An old woman, who had some mental difficulties, used to come to the Prophet ﷺ asking for help, saying:
"I have a need to ask of you."
So how did the Prophet ﷺ respond to her? Did he reprimand her? Did he turn her away? Did he busy himself with other matters and assign someone else to her?
Absolutely not!
Instead, he lovingly said to her:
"O Umm so-and-so, take any road you wish, and I will walk with you there until your need is fulfilled." (4)
Tell me where you want to go, and let’s go together to solve all that troubles you.
It was an immediate, practical initiative, without hesitation or delay, to fulfill people’s needs, without discrimination.
You would find him walking to meet the needs of women and men, whether they were white or black, young or old, rich or poor.
And among his advice to us was not to look at those above us, but to look at those beneath us, so we may be content with our circumstances. (5)
And to love the poor, draw close to them, and not act arrogantly toward them. (6)
And to maintain ties of kinship and honor our relatives, even if they are hostile to us. (6)
And not to fear the blame of the blamers in the cause of Allah, nor the enmity of the oppressor. (6)
And to speak the truth, even if it is bitter. (6)
And to increase in remembrance of Allah so that our hearts remain soft. (7)
This is what Muhammad ﷺ taught us.
So if you want to know more about him, follow us, and feel free to contact us if you have any questions, inquiries, or even doubts. You will always find us ready to help you find truthful answers to all your questions.
